Soloma is a town of over 40,000 people located high in the mountains of the state of Huehuetenango.  It was selected by the local Heartsprings directors in Guatemala to receive a Safe Water System.   They met with officials of the city and were welcomed with much gratitude.  In early March, Sergio and Nixie Mora, local HeartSprings representatives and a group of college students from Pepperdine University led by Pastor Tim Taylor travelled to Soloma to install the Safe Water System there.  The city has three large water tanks and a Safe Water System was installed in each tank.  Fernando of the Huehuetenango Water Department led the installation team.

The night preceding the dedication ceremony, the group was invited to come to a local church by a local school director.  The Pepperdine team had led some activities for the children at his school during that day and he was so taken by their spirit and love that he extended an invitation to them to come to his church that evening.  Pastors Sergio and Sammy had an opportunity to share with the congregation about ‘the living water’, Jesus Christ.  They explained that they were there to express the love of Jesus in a practical way to the city through the gift of clean water and the various activities planned by the Pepperdine group.  God’s presence was there and it was a time of true celebration.

The next morning was the dedication ceremony.  The government officials were so grateful for the donation and they demonstrated that appreciation through a big celebration in the school gymnasium.   All the city officials were there plus many residents and school children.   The gym was decorated and all was done with excellence.  They even had fireworks to add volume to the celebration.  Many speeches were given by the various city officials and much gratitude was expressed.     Pastor Tim explained how the Safe Water System works.  The Pepperdine group joyfully handed the Safe Water System to the city officials.   It was apparent in their smiles that they realized the importance and impact that clean water can have on this city.  Pastor Sergio shared the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ and invited all to receive Him as Lord and Savior.   Many accepted Jesus into their hearts including most of the city officials.  HeartSprings now has an open invitation to return to Soloma at any time to bring the message of Jesus and His love.
